🎥 New Research Webinar: Etiology of CP and Functional Outcomes at Age Six
📅 Date: Monday, July 14, 2025 🕗 Time: 8:00 PM ET
👩⚕️ Speakers: Dr. Joyce Oleszek & Dr. Wendy Pierce (Pediatric Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Children’s Colorado)Join us for the upcoming MyCP Webinar featuring findings from a major new study:“Etiology of Cerebral Palsy Is Associated with Functional Outcomes at 6 Years of Age: A Clinical Registry Study.”In this session, Drs. Oleszek and Pierce will share results from a retrospective analysis of the CP Research Network’s clinical registry involving over 1,200 individuals with CP. The study examined how the underlying etiology (cause) of cerebral palsy is linked to gross motor function at age six, using GMFCS (Gross Motor Function Classification System) levels.
🔑 Key Findings:
✅ Children with CP due to congenital stroke or prematurity-related conditions (e.g., PVL, IVH, WMI) were more likely to be ambulatory (GMFCS Levels I–III).
❌ Children with CP from hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) or congenital infections were more likely to be non-ambulatory (GMFCS Levels IV–V).
🧠 While each prognosis must be individualized, this research offers valuable insights for: Early care planning Family counseling Personalized clinical decision-making 💡 The presenters will also highlight how this work lays the foundation for improved early functional prognosis and explore future research directions, including the impact of social and environmental factors on outcomes.
📣 Audience: Clinicians, researchers, caregivers, and individuals with CP are all welcome.
📺 The session will be recorded and posted on the MyCP YouTube channel within 24 hours. us02web.zoom.us/j/87902165023?pwd=bzlMQn...YTNoSWh0ZkR4TEdNUT09 If you missed the latest webinar, you can watch it on our YouTube channel or by going to MyCP Webinar Series
