Following graduation from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Mark Gorman completed pediatrics and pediatric neurology residencies at Boston Children’s Hospital. He then completed a two-year fellowship in pediatric demyelinating disorders and neuro-immunology at Harvard Medical School. In 2008, he founded the Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis, Demyelinating Disorders and Neuro-immunology Program. He is currently the Co-Director of the Neuro-immunology Center and the Associate Chief of Clinical Services in the Department of Neurology at Boston Children's Hospital, and an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. He takes care of pediatric patients with the full range of central nervous systemic neuro-immunological disorders with a multi-disciplinary team. He has special interest and expertise in opsoclonus myoclonus ataxia syndrome, is a member of the International OMAS Study Group Steering Committee, and the lead principal investigator for a multinational registry in OMAS. Dr. Mink is a world-renowned child neurologist whose career has profoundly influenced our understanding and management of pediatric movement disorders. His clinical and research focus on movement disorders and their underlying brain mechanisms has earned him global recognition as a leading expert in this field.
Dr. Mink recently retired from the University of Rochester, where he held the prestigious Frederick A. Horner Distinguished Professorship in Pediatric Neurology. Over his illustrious career, he has served as Professor of Neurology, Neuroscience, and Pediatrics, as well as Chief of Child Neurology. In addition, Dr. Mink played a pivotal role in training the next generation of neurologists, serving as the Director of both the Child Neurology Residency Program and the Pediatric Movement Disorders Fellowship.
With over 150 peer-reviewed publications and as the co-author of the highly regarded textbook Movement Disorders in Childhood, now in its third edition, Dr. Mink has made invaluable contributions to the academic community.
His work in advocacy and education is equally commendable. Dr. Mink was the first recipient of the Dr. Oliver Sacks Award from the Tourette Association of America, a testament to his impact on research, education, and advocacy for Tourette Syndrome. He has also served as President of the Child Neurology Society and is a current member of the Executive Board of the International Child Neurology Association (ICNA).
